Description:
Prime All Might vs. Prime All for One is a massive fan collaboration project spearheaded by the mastermind The Manga Viewer. The goal is to animate the epic fight between All Might and All for One in their prime, depicting the battle that ultimately results in the injuries we see them suffering from in the anime and manga. I had the opportunity to contribute to Part Three, and my animated section can be seen from 24:45 to 25:20.
It started with a comment...
In 2021, I mostly animated my passion projects on my phone using the Picsart Animator app. However, after attending The Animation School and getting a taste of Toon Boom Harmony, I realized I needed a more advanced program to take my work to the next level. That’s when I discovered a free professional Level software OpenToonz. To get a feel for the program, I started experimenting and scribbling, which eventually led to creating my Black Clover fan animation.
After uploading the animation, a few days went by, and someone from the community popped up in my comments asking if I’d like to join their collaboration. At first, I was hesitant—I had never done anything like that before, and I was still pretty new to the software. But a good friend of mine encouraged me to take that leap of faith, and so I did.
And just like that, it was time to lock in. The project lead laid out the general environment where the scene would take place, provided me with the script, and told me I had creative liberty in how I structured the scenes. The only requirement was that the scenes needed to follow a specific order. With that, I began working on my part.
The Script:
Nana:
Hey Toshi, do you know what a hero means?
Toshi:
A hero is someone who saves everyone.
Nana:
Yeah, you're right, but you forgot one thing.
Toshi:
Huh?
Nana:
He saves everyone with a smile.
Promise me, Toshi, when you become a hero, save everyone with a smile 😊
Toshi:
Hm, I promise."
The Shots:
It was a bit stressful, mainly because I was learning how the program worked while trying to use it at the same time. Despite that, for my first fully-colored pieces in the program, I think they turned out pretty cool. Plus, I got a taste of working with a team, which was an added bonus. Depending on when you’re reading this, the animation project might still be ongoing. The trailer for Part 4 will be linked below.
